Click above for a high res gallery of the 2011 Chevy Volt During the recent conference call detailing the updates on the Chevy Volt , Executive Director of Global Engineering Bob Kruse said something that deserves to be highlighted: the price of the Volt will, in part, be determined by the cost of gas in November 2010, when the car is scheduled to go on sale. Here’s the exact quote: I will tell you though that $1.50 a gallon gasoline is not necessarily helping with the business case, but who knows what the cost of petroleum is going to be in the future. I’ve been asked what’s the Volt going to cost in November, 2010 or what’s the price going to be?


Toyota confirms only one Prius for Europe

Katsuaki Watanabe, current president at Toyota Motors, has confirmed the rumors we’ve been hearing for the last few weeks that the automaker plans to continue selling the current version of the Prius alongside its newer 2010 sibling in Japan. The current 2009 Prius will continue on unchanged, as far as we’re aware, but will see its price reduced by a few million yen to match that of the new Honda Insight . We’d heard that this dual-Prius plan won’t be echoed in the United States, and now Toyota has confirmed that it won’t happen in Europe either.

Auto Alliance CEO: automakers "Embrace Change," want national regulations

Auto Alliance President and CEO Dave McCurdy has released an Op-Ed titled “Embracing Change” in which he unsurprisingly uses can-do enthusiasm to explain just how well the big automakers are gearing up for the low-carbon economy and don’t want a nasty patchwork of laws. McCurdy repeats the automakers’ new rallying cry for “a smart and predictable regulatory environment.” Translation: California had better not get to define its own greenhouse gas emissions regulations for half of the states. McCurdy writes the President Obama should lead the way in setting this single national standard so that the industry knows which technologies to invest in
