The winning car is based on the body of a standard R8 V10 coupe and powered by the four-motor electric drive system used on last year’s e-Tron concept. The E-Auto Rally took place over three days, including three stages and 10 time trials where the drivers had to match the target time

The company is taking its EV concept to the Silvretta E-Auto Rally in Austria. The competition is designed to pit the latest and greatest of the electric vehicle world against each other over 10 special stages that cover a total of 104 miles.

None of these things, though, is quite as fun as taking the car around the track at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That’s just what happened this past weekend when five-time Le Mans winner Frank Biela took the electric sports car for a loop before the 24-hour race officially started.

Filed under: Diesel , MPG , Racing By now you’ve no doubt heard that Audi returned to the top of the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year after losing out to Peugeot in 2009. Even though the Audi R15+ was much improved this year, it still didn’t have the outright speed to match the French diesels. Still, the extra speed did allow the Audis to push the Peugeots hard enough that ultimately all four 908s broke.

During Wednesday night’s first qualifying session for this weekend’s 24-hour-race, the four Peugeot 908 and three Audi R15+ LMP1 cars grabbed the top seven positions on the grid.
