This accident occurred just after the high-profile case involving Jim Sikes and his Prius in San Diego , but, unlike that incident, where the car eventually came to a complete stop, the Prius in New York crashed into a stone wall with the driver suffering minor, non-life threatening injuries

While we’ve heard of brake problems with the third-gen Prius - and Seve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Inc., complained as well - it wasn’t until yesterday that Toyota admitted that there is a software problem in the 2010 Prius. The Prius is still technically not part of the recall, but the company changed the software in January and will now need to deal with all of the 2010 Priuses built and sold before then

Better Place founder and CEO Shai Agassi is now slightly refining the message to emphasize the cheaper up-front cost of the EVs, including the Renault Fluence, instead of the running costs. As regular readers know, the two most promising longer-term solutions are plug-in electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell cars. The debate between the two supporting camps is never-ending and often recycled.

Filed under: Biodiesel , Diesel , Volkswagen , Racing Last weekend, Speed TV began airing the 2009 season of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup on Saturdays and that will continue through the month of December. Those broadcasts however, only show the on-track action from green flag to checker. In motorsports, there is just as much action behind the scenes as there is during the competition and, come January 18, Speed will run a 60-minute, behind-the-scenes documentary on the 2009 season

Filed under: EV/Plug-in , Mitsubishi , UK Mitsubishi i-MiEV - Click above for high-res image gallery While the ship they came in on was probably dirty as all get out during its six-week journey from Japan, 25 all-electric Mitsubishi i-MiEVs have arrived in the UK and will take to the streets (in an uneventful government Ultra Low Carbon Vehicle Demonstrator test kind of way) on December 12th. Bringing the cars to the UK has been in discussion for a long time . If sales in Japan, which started in July, are any indication, a lot more ships with a lot more electric jellybeans will need to make the journey to satisfy demand.

Filed under: Legislation and Policy , USA We found out which vehicles were the most popular “green” clunkers in the Car Allowance Rebate System that ran its course earlier this fall, but it won’t take much sleuthing to discover where all these clunkers have ended up. According to the AP , the disabled SUVs, minivans and trucks (mostly) are still sitting on scrap lots around the country. One recycler in Minnesota has acres crammed with 4,000 cars and can only dismantle about 100 cars a week.
