Reducing internal friction is a prime target for improvement that is being tackled in several ways, including coats, surface finishes and lubricants

While we’ve yet to hear much from the conference, one dealership has come forward and posted a slew of additional information over at the My Nissan Leaf forum . Most of the information, if true, will not please those eager to land a Leaf soon.

Automakers are scratching and clawing for every mpg they can find by doing things like downsizing and turbocharging engines, adding direct injection and variable valve timing, utilizing electric power steering and cutting weight. Another great way to save fuel is through improved aerodynamics, as evidenced by an enhancement made to the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco that helps the new C-segment sedan reach 40 mpg on the highway.

Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) has at least one of these aspects and made his case for a bigger gas tax in a letter to members of President Obama’s debt commission: A multiyear transportation bill that is paid for would be a real economic stimulus and create immediate jobs. The Transportation Department estimates that for every $1 billion the federal government invests in highways and bridges, 34,800 jobs are created or maintained.
