Filed under: EV/Plug-in , Fisker Fisker Karma - Click above for high-res image gallery We’ve already seen at least one TV ad from Fisker Automotive , a minute-long spot that aired in the Los Angeles area almost a year ago (watch it here ). Fisker recently consolidated its operations in California ( sorry, Michigan ), a move the company said would allow “greater efficiency and speeds up development of our new plug-in hybrids.” The latest sign that development is indeed moving forward is the news that the plug-in vehicle start-up has hired the independent advertising agency Lambesis as its agency of record. As you might know (we didn’t), Lambesis is the force behind recent campaigns for SKYY vodka, Grand Marnier and Dasani.

For the Geneva Motor Show that starts in a few weeks, the automaker is going in the other direction and will be showing off the “advanced aluminum space frame” that underpins the Karma and gives the plug-in hybrid car “new levels of rigidity and strength” for “world-class ride and handling characteristics.” Here’s how Fisker describes the frames, which will be made by Valmet Automotive in Uusikaupunki, Finland, in a statement: Though it forms the foundation of a large sedan the Karma space frame’s rigidity is exceptional even when compared to today’s sports cars.

We were especially attracted to the droptop Sunset model, in this case painted up in a beautiful coating of jet black paint. Equally as jaw-dropping was the brown leather interior, which had a worn-in baseball glove-like finish that looked awfully inviting

Filed under: EV/Plug-in , Manufacturing/Plants , Fisker Fisker Karma - Click above for high-res image gallery When Fisker signed an agreement in late October to build the Nina project car plug-in hybrid sports car at a Wilmington, Delaware assembly plant that formerly belonged to GM, we mentioned that United Auto Workers Local 435 president was on hand, hinting that the plant would remain unionized. This is not typical for a startup auto plant, but Fisker’s entry into the Diamond State was a real lifesaver for the UAW members, who “looked like goners” earlier in the summer. That phrase comes from a report on Delaware Online about Fisker’s investment in the plant and how it could create 5,000 jobs in the U.S

Filed under: EV/Plug-in , Hybrid , Fisker With the UN Climate change conference currently under way in Copenhagen Denmark, it’s not at all surprising that a member of the Danish royal family would make an appearance at some of the events. Of course it wouldn’t do to show up at such a conference in a Rolls-Royce or Bentley. However, a Prius would be a bit too pedestrian

No one but the hopelessly naive will be surprised to learn that production Karma’s will not be hitting customers hands by the end of this month ( as once promised ). For a company that was only founded two years ago, to get an all-new design engineered and produced in 18 months is a near impossibility

At first glance, it seems an unlikely piece of engineering. A one-wheeled electric motorcycle with Segway-like smarts for staying upright which, for safety’s sake, topped out at 15 mph. For Ben Gulak, the Uno was just a starting point and several years after beginning his original prototype at the age of 16, Gulak, now an MIT student, has evolved his concept into a machine that transforms into a two-wheeler on the fly
