For the Geneva Motor Show that starts in a few weeks, the automaker is going in the other direction and will be showing off the “advanced aluminum space frame” that underpins the Karma and gives the plug-in hybrid car “new levels of rigidity and strength” for “world-class ride and handling characteristics.” Here’s how Fisker describes the frames, which will be made by Valmet Automotive in Uusikaupunki, Finland, in a statement: Though it forms the foundation of a large sedan the Karma space frame’s rigidity is exceptional even when compared to today’s sports cars.

We were especially attracted to the droptop Sunset model, in this case painted up in a beautiful coating of jet black paint. Equally as jaw-dropping was the brown leather interior, which had a worn-in baseball glove-like finish that looked awfully inviting

At the time, COO Bernhard Koehler said in a statement that: The available talent, supplier base and infrastructure in Michigan will help us reach our production goal. While Fisker Automotive will continue to be headquartered in Irvine, California, the new facility will allow us the opportunity to collaborate with our Michigan supplier base and have everyone under one roof

Fisker Karma - Click above for high-res image gallery Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies has been working with Fisker Automotive ever since the latter company started its efforts to be build a luxury plug-in hybrid a couple of years ago. Quantum has been largely responsible for the creation of the plug-in series hybrid/extended range EV powertrain.

Fisker Karma - Click above for high-res image gallery When we spoke to Henrik Fisker in January about his company’s plans to bring the Karma to market quickly, he said that they chose Finland’s Valmet Automotive to produce the cars because “they are the only factory in the world that could meet our deadline to bring the car to market this year.” Maybe so, but that doesn’t mean that the cars will actually be delivered in 2009.
